What to Know

Critics Consensus

While scattered plotting occasionally drains the fear from its chilling premise, IT: Welcome to Derry compellingly deepens the myth of Pennywise through sharp social commentary, a dreadful atmosphere, and committed performances.

Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) The most churny moments come not from the supernatural but from the day-to-day of living in America. Nov 5, 2025 Full Review Linda Holmes Pop Culture Happy Hour (NPR Podcast) There's something about this that makes me think it's better as a set of really gross set pieces than it is as a version of IT. ...so much is lost from what I think of as the point of IT, that I'm not sure what this is really supposed to be about. Nov 4, 2025 Full Review Bill Goodykoontz Arizona Republic If you like horror — it sounds as if horror would be self-evident in a horror series, but fans of the genre know it can be surprisingly lacking — “It: Welcome to Derry” won’t disappoint. Nov 3, 2025 Full Review Kathia Woods The Philadelphia Tribune The youthful cast is one of the reasons this series is successful, as their emotional depth and portrayals of panic and terror significantly enhance "It: Welcome to Derry." Rated: 8/10 Nov 24, 2025 Full Review Tatat Bunnag Bangkok Post I tend to prefer original horror stories over expansions of existing material, but Welcome To Derry offers enough intrigue so far. Nov 13, 2025 Full Review Carolina Alvarado LatinaMedia.Co Illustrates collective apathy and cycles of violence – and this grounding in reality makes it particularly horrifying. Justin C No show is perfect but I think this series is fantastically entertaining so far. I really, really hope they're able to pull off 3 full seasons. Writing is sharp, cinematography is beautiful, and the storyline interpretation is engaging. Even considering critics' complaints, it's solid fun for the masses of IT/Stephen King fans. Was definitely worth subscribing to HBO Max. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/30/25 Full Review c w Interesting, high quality, and great acting. Good followup to "IT" and "Castle Rock". Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/29/25 Full Review Scarlet W Amazing series. Can't wait for the upcoming episodes Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/28/25 Full Review David V Nonsensical! Utterly ridiculous. At many points it makes no sense, kids take happy pills but are still scared, guy has no fear but still gets scared. It’s just so bad. You jammed the plot in with aspects that make no sense. They contained Pennywise to a forest, why not contain him further? I could go on and on. I was very hopeful for this series, but it is a bad show that attempts to make up for it by over the top theatrics and killing main characters. Sorry but It’s stupid. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/28/25 Full Review Chuck S Boring to say the least and the "scares" are just atrocious CGI that, in most cases, are laughable. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/27/25 Full Review Kyle V. This show has a pretty decent plot but I legitimately don’t understand why they use so much awful CGI, it kills me! Every time the show starts to get a little bit creepy, here comes some clearly fake monster. People are afraid of clowns, not CGI monsters with 1,000 teeth.
