John Carman Atlanta Journal-Constitution The Shrewsbury locales help immensely, and director Clive Donner has thrown in some spectral fireworks to pep up the movie. Nov 26, 2025 Full Review Brian Courtis The Age (Australia) I thought this unambitious but novel adaptation of 'A Christmas Carol' was generally handled rather well. Nov 26, 2025 Full Review Time Out Staff Time Out [George C. Scott's] intelligence and quickness at last give us a Scrooge of many dimensions; a man of tortured and forbidding nobility, made cruel by uncaring parentage and a malign fate, rather than the usual thin miser. Nov 26, 2025 Full Review Alan Pergament Buffalo News The performances of Woodward and Finley as ghosts are so wonderfully ostentatious that they almost steal the spotlight from Scott's Scrooge. Nov 26, 2025 Full Review Bill Carter Baltimore Sun This is all Dickens and all good. The scenes are wonderfully realized, the dialogue letter perfect. Nov 26, 2025 Full Review Diane Holloway Austin American-Statesman It should become a genuine classic. Nov 26, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Jace T Who doesn't know the story of The Christmas Carol? The story itself is a timeless classic that has a lot of heart, emotion, and wonderful lessons to tell. This TV Movie rendition of the tale is very good and heartwarming. In the beginning it almost feels like a play. All three ghosts Scrooge goes on an adventure with are eerie. By the end of the movie, I got chills, and it was very heartwarming. I loved this version. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/04/25 Full Review thiago s Filme fraco, o roteiro é fraco, as cenas são fracas, a história é fraca, o elenco é fraco, e ninguém ajuda a melhorar o filme, os personagens são fracos, e o filme deveria ter cenas bem melhores e relevantes, para fazer o filme ser bom Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/20/25 Full Review Brad S. R The best adaptation of A Christmas Carol I've ever seen. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/04/25 Full Review Audience Member My favorite version, true to the classic story, with a wonderful cast. We re-watch it every year. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/26/24 Full Review Chris P This is my favorite adaptation. As a family tradition every Christmas we would watch this movie. To this day it still doesn't get old. I appreciate the 1951 adaptation as it adds some light on some of the story. I reccomend both. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/26/24 Full Review James F This 1984 version is worth watching, but doesn’t hold a candle to the 1951 version of “A Christmas Carol”, with Alistair Simm as Scrooge. The entire cast on the 1951 version is more animated & alive, while the 1984 cast seems stiff & wooden, Scott is okay playing Scrooge, but Simm IS Scrooge and he explodes from his mean spirited, miserly, former self into a joyous, reborn man with a heart & soul. It’s by far my favorite version of “A Christmas Carol” and one of my all time favorite holiday movies. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/26/24 Full Review Read all reviews
