Critics Consensus

Parlaying a strained state of the union into narrative suspense, Anniversary's effectiveness as a political parable comes to a split decision while its status as a solid thriller wins plenty of support.

"a hypothetical question as character study, an examination of how this happens and an assertion that a system like this shows no mercy, not even to its most loyal subjects, despite what we want to believe.

Komasa (“Corpus Christi”) demonstrates a steady hand at staging a slew of rage-filled confrontations, and helps stabilize the outraged screenplay when it gets too didactic, even though he loses control of that near the finale.

The big problem with Anniversary is that it doesn’t have much to say about today’s political moment.

The less-headline-worthy assessment is the film’s just so-so and would have benefited from a more expansive limited-series format, giving the characters time to breathe.

Really awesome concept. Its really a shame there was no advertisement for it because the movie was incredible with a really cool theme. It had a similar theme to the initial concept of The Handmaids Tale

I thought this movie was going to be a stalker type murder movie. Boy was I wrong. It was such a twist. Thought provoking and almost future telling story line of what could actually happen. Amazing ending as well. I saw this over a week ago and I find myself still thinking about it. A must see!

I liked that the movie showed how an entitled American public can be moved to an authoritarian system and think that it's a democratic system. The acting was very good. The plot is similar to a horror movie for the reason that anyone in the main characters position with wealth and knowledge, would have fled the country before it's silent transition to a singular autocracy, but instead stay as they sink deeper into quicksand.
