Two feature films have been produced based on the Tron character, 1982's "Tron" and the 2010 sequel, "Tron: Legacy." "Tron: Uprising" takes place during the time period between the story lines of the two movies. In the series, young program Beck becomes the leader of a revolution inside the computer world of The Grid, tasked with the mission of freeing his home and friends from the reign of Clu and his henchman, Gen. Tesler. To prepare for the challenge, Beck is trained by Tron -- the greatest warrior The Grid has ever known -- who mentors Beck as he grows beyond his youthful nature into a courageous and powerful leader. Destined to become the system's new protector, Beck adopts Tron's persona to battle the forces of evil.

Kevin Yeoman Screen Rant The story is so simple, effective and inviting, that it causes one to wish the premise of Uprising had become the plot for Legacy. Oct 2, 2025 Full Review TK Burton Pajiba It’s a flashy, fast-paced and well-acted new addition, adding a solid depth to the gaps in between the films. Most importantly, it’s fun, something that was sadly missing from the sequel. Oct 2, 2025 Full Review Cindy White IGN Movies It moves at a brisk pace without confusing the viewer. Rated: 8/10 Oct 2, 2025 Full Review Emily Ashby Common Sense Media With no disconnect between live-action and special effects (an issue with the movies), viewers can fully immerse themselves in the setting and the story. Rated: 4/5 Oct 2, 2025 Full Review Cameron K. McEwan Den of Geek The character of the world, and its inhabitants, is gorgeously stylized; giving its bigger brother big screen versions a close run in terms of quality, freshness and originality. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/20/25 Full Review Darius R Great series that expands Tron lore and world, I hope they someday continue it and end it properly Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/20/25 Full Review Hughe J Tron Uprising is an animated series released on streaming in 2012 and is set in the Tron universe of 'The Grid'. The series takes place after the events of the first Tron movie but before the sequel Tron Legacy. Clu has become a power on the Grid and is slowly taking over city after city. He believes he "de rezzed" the greatest fighter on the Grid which of course was Tron, again voiced by Bruce Boxleitner. Tron however was seriously injured but not destroyed and soon trains an apprentice named Beck, voiced by Elijah Woods, to take over the Tron persona and keep up the fight against Clu and his minions. The animation style reminded me of early Aeon Flux episodes but with brighter colors and less refined detailed drawings. The voice over work was pretty solid and the score was very good; definitely had the classic Tron sound mixed with some Daft Punk type undertones. Unfortunately, for me at least, the episodes were bland and I've seen the plots before. Nothing wrong with repeating what worked in other shows but it got boring by midseason. It's a shame it was cancelled after only one season but I would certainly recommend it to any Tron or animation fan. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/14/25 Full Review Noah S. This would probably be the best installment in the Tron mythos if Disney didn’t pull the plug after one season. Stacked cast that did incredible voice work, great score, and animation that is truly unique that only fits right within Tron. The writers did not have to cook this hard, but they did nonetheless and the fact that it was cancelled before they could even finish telling a complete story is one of the biggest L’s that I will never forgive Disney for. This really needs a #CloneWarsSaved treatment. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/09/25 Full Review Read all reviews
