Amber Dowling Globe and Mail Sure, these next eight episodes are still earnest and easy-to-digest, but by stripping away everything that made this show so special in Season 1, A Man on the Inside is also forgettable. Nov 26, 2025 Full Review Alan Sepinwall What's Alan Watching? (Ghost.io) I was glad I watched. But... the return of A Man on the Inside illustrates what an impressive balancing act that first year was, and how hard it is to do that again. Nov 25, 2025 Full Review G. Allen Johnson San Francisco Chronicle Season 2 isn’t a letdown. Nov 26, 2025 Full Review Ronak Kotecha The Times of India The writing remains unmistakably Michael Schur -- warm, witty, and lightly clever, blending personal stakes with playful espionage. Rated: 3.5/5 Nov 25, 2025 Full Review Brian Lowry Status News You seldom see two septuagenarians on screen with such palpable chemistry, which is emblematic of what sets the show apart. Daniel G Let me start with: I liked the first season. But Season 2 of Man on the Inside was honestly hard to get through. Instead of tightening the story, the show piles on so many unnecessary side arcs that the main plot keeps losing steam. It feels like every secondary character suddenly needs their own storyline, and the result is messy and unfocused. The tone shift doesn’t help. Season 1 had a few quirky characters, and that was bearable, but Season 2 turns almost everyone into a quirk machine. It’s distracting and makes the world feel far less believable. "Apollo" is the clearest example, so over-the-top and unrelatable that every scene with him pulls me straight out of the story. I honestly could have done without the full cast ensemble Thanksgiving scene. Even the Julie and her mother storyline gets stretched out to the point of exhaustion. Instead of adding depth, it repeatedly interrupts everything else and drags the season down. Then there is the Didi and Julie arc as well. The writers should have paced themselves… maybe save something for Season 3. Overall, the whole season feels like it’s trying way too hard, too cute, too quirky, too forced. The pacing becomes so slow and scattered that I genuinely struggled to finish it. I even considered skipping ahead just to close out the time I’d already invested. Season 2 manages to amplify all the small things I didn’t like about Season 1 while losing the grounded, relatable elements that made the show interesting in the first place. What I appreciated about Season 1 was how familiar it felt, especially for anyone dealing with aging parents or relatives trying to find their place in an ever-modernizing world. That alone brought enough natural quirkiness. I just wish the show didn’t feel the need to go so over the top or throw in everything and the kitchen sink. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/30/25 Full Review Laura E Season 1 was so delightful and enjoyable. S2 is cringy, contrived and boring as hell. The writers ruined a perfectly original series…… Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/30/25 Full Review Craig K Just the right mix of humour and seriousness. Fingers crossed for Season 3. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/29/25 Full Review Greg H It’s Hollywood so they couldn’t go two seasons without introducing a lesbian storyline. It’s not relevant to the show, but it seems to be requirement these days with every show that comes out pun intended that being said season two was not as good as season one and I’m guessing they’ll be a season three that won’t be as good as season two. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/29/25 Full Review 21w K Absolutely LOVED First season! And how they could screw it up so bad. Boring and annoying. That sweet story we’ve seen in the first season wasn’t even close to moving me. Annoying characters, annoying storyline. Even Ted Danson couldn’t save this season for me. Super disappointed. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/29/25 Full Review Casey T Season 2 of A Man on the Inside takes everything that worked in the first and pushes it further. The pacing is tighter, the tension is higher, and the character development is far more layered. The cast delivers excellent performances, and the twists land with real impact. It feels more confident, more polished, and even more emotionally engaging than before. A fantastic follow-up — suspenseful, well-written, and absolutely worth watching.
